It was a case of celebrating the past and looking forward to the future for leading law firm Higgs & Sons as it hosted two special events to mark its 140th anniversary this year.

Around 500 guests joined the Midlands based solicitors at two events that took place at the Black Country Living Museum and the Library of Birmingham.

"Celebrating 140 years is a special occasion for any organisation," said Paul Hunt, managing partner. "We are extremely proud of our Black Country roots and we have always enjoyed a strong connection with Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. These events reflect and celebrate this affinity to our region and the part we have played in its development over the past 140 years."

Higgs & Sons' anniversary events were organised around the theme of 'Proud of our past, passionate about our future'. The Black Country Living Museum event celebrated the firm's heritage, with guests able to go back in time to experience the region as it was at the time of Higgs' founding.  The Birmingham event looked more to the future with guests gathering in the incredible surroundings of the city's new Central Library.

"We have come a long way since 1875," commented Nick Moxon, senior partner at the firm who addressed guests at the event. "We are now over 220 strong with a full range of legal services all housed in our state of the art headquarters at the Waterfront in Brierley Hill.

"Higgs & Sons has seen continual growth throughout its history and as we celebrate our 140th anniversary with clients and colleagues from across the region and beyond, the firm is in an excellent position - going from strength to strength."

Higgs & Sons began in 1875, founded by Joseph Higgs, and the links with the Higgs family remain strong, with David Higgs, the great grandson of Joseph, remaining a consultant at the firm.

The Higgs & Sons anniversary events took place on the 10th September at the Library of Birmingham and the BCLM on the 16th. The 500 guests comprised clients, professional contacts and suppliers.

Ian Shovlin, Higgs & Sons' current longest serving partner and himself a former senior partner is proud of what these events represent for the firm.

"There have been so many high points throughout our history. Our move to the Waterfront in 2010 was an illustration of how far we had come and looking back it is extremely rewarding to see just how much we have progressed. "
